I knew it was too good to be true – that all the U2ieTour planning wasn’t quite finished yet. I woke up around 5:30am this morning after a bad dream, rolled over and of course looked at my phone (by the way, I don’t get up until 8:30am and I hadn’t fallen asleep until about 1:30am). I saw on my phone a Facebook message from my friend saying U2 added shows. I immediately when into my ticketmaster app to make sure they weren’t on sale right then. Thankfully, or maybe not thankfully, the added shows do not go on sale until Monday December 12th at 10am. I checked my email and there was an email from U2 announcing the new shows – more shows added to cities, not new cities. For that we will have to wait until 2016.
U2 added two shows in each of the more popular cities where the shows had already sold out, or are about to. The added shows I am interested in are Chicago, New York and maybe Boston. The problem remains the same for me regarding the shows in New York City vs Boston. The shows in these two cities go on sale at the same time. I am already going to four shows in New York City and want to go to the added shows because it is the last show of this leg of the tour. Ironically, the New York shows are less expensive for me because it is only a three hour drive from home and megabus is very cheap – and if I don’t want to stay the entire 10 days in NYC, I can go back and forth to home to work. If I add the Boston shows to my itinerary, it would be more days off work and another expense, either a flight or eight hour drive – and the Boston shows are right before the NYC shows. My main reason for wanting to go to Boston is to see the shows with some of my friends who are going. I could opt not to go to the added shows in Chicago using that saved money and days off from work for Boston, but again I’ll already be in Chicago and the hotel is actually cheaper than in Boston. Plus getting tickets to the Chicago shows is easier since they go on sale an hour after New York and Boston. So basically I’m in the same conundrum I was in yesterday and the added shows did not make it easier for me to get to Boston.
Hoping I am going to get tickets to the two added shows in Chicago and in New York City, I made new hotel reservations. (I will figure out Boston later if I decide to go and end up getting tickets.) So I have two reservations in Chicago (one for the first two shows and one for all four shows), and I have two reservations in New York City (one for the first four shows and one for all six shows). And both of these hotels are in walking distance to the arenas and accept pets, just in case my dogs Elvis and Cilla travel with me again on this tour. If I am lucky enough to get tickets to the added shows, I will be spending a week in Chicago June 23-30 and 10 days in New York City July 18-28 – not to mention almost four days in Vancouver May 13-16 to start the tour.
I thought I would create Facebook Groups and Twitter Lists for the Vancouver, Chicago and New York City shows, so everyone would have one place to go to discuss their travel plans with other fans. This is especially important for Chicago as I have met lots of fans online and looking forward to hanging out with my new midwest U2 friends. I don’t expect a Group or List to work too well for New York because it is so vast, but I’ll give it a try. The Vancouver group/list looks to be made up on local folks as well as some old friends flying in to experience the splendor of the first show of the tour. I would also like to have a U2 Fan MeetUp in each of these cities. Again, I doubt a New York City MeetUp will work out, but Chicago and Vancouver will be very doable.
