Kentucky, Lexington Elevation – my U2 Concerts A to Z

I chose the Elevation show in Lexington, Kentucky on May 4, 2001 at Rupp Arena as my favorite ‘K‘ U2 concert because I had no other ‘K’ show to choose from. It is not one of my favorite concerts or even one of my favorite Elevation shows. But apparently at the time, I loved this concert in Lexington. Actually I just think all the shows on the Elevation Tour were amazing. Here is what I wrote right after the Lexington Elevation concert:

Best U2 concert ever! I know I write that after each concert, but they get better every time I see them! I flew into Lexington around 11am and was in the GA line by 2pm. Bono came out to the GA line for a few minutes around 4pm and thanked us. Even though I was within the first 150 people in line, I still stood at the tip of the heart. The best place to stand – you can’t convince me otherwise. PJ Harvey opened again. I heard “Kite” and “Stay” for the first time. U2 also played an acoustic version of “Desire,” but they did not play “Gone,” “Staring at the Sun,” “Discotheque” or “Ground Beneath Her Feet.” I touched Bono’s hand once – the first time he leaned into the crowd. And then I patted his shoulder as he ran between the catwalk and us (where security was) – first time for that. I think “Pride” may have been my favorite this time. Bono was much more talkative tonight and much more political. What a night! Best U2 show! Tomorrow on to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby!
