November 5, 2005 – Las Vegas, my last Vertigo show

This Day in U2 History

It was my first day really gambling, my second day in Las Vegas and my last U2 show on the Vertigo Tour. It was November 5, 2005, and my best friend Cindy and I were having a blast in Lost Wages, uh I mean Las Vegas. Playing the slots all day on Freemont Street, Hard Rock, Treasure Island, the Mirage, the Flamingo and Paris before going to the U2 show that night.

I walked down to the MGM Grand Arena after our dinner at Paris, leaving Cindy playing the slots. I again sat in the seats behind the stage as I had the previous night. This second Vegas show was amazing! Mary J Blige sang on “One,” and Brandon Flowers, the lead singer from the Killers, sang on “In a Little While.” Unlike the previous night, U2 played “Zoo Station,” “The Fly,” “Until the End of the World” and “Mysterious Ways.” After the show, I walked back to Paris and found Cindy sitting at that same slot machine she was at when I left her a few hours earlier.

Vertigo Vegas2 11.5.05 Set List: City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, Mysterious Ways, Until the End of the World, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, Beautiful Day – All These Things That I’ve Done, Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet the Blue Sky, Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One, Zoo Station, The Fly, With or Without You, Happy Birthday, All Because of You, In a Little While, Bad.

It’s funny. I always say that the Vertigo Tour was my least favorite tour, and it is, but when I look back at the set lists from those shows, they were fantastic. There were a lot of changes and a lot of rarities. But at the time, I just was not that into the Vertigo Tour.
