Washington DC ZooTV – my U2 Concerts A to Z
I am going to use a little creative license with this post and combine two concerts into one, making both U2 shows in Washington DC at RFK Stadium on the ZooTv Tour on August 15-16, 1992 my favorite ‘W‘ U2 concert. I feel justified in doing so because in all honestly I cannot remember which happened on which night, so in my head, they are one concert. I do remember it was at these shows that my worlds collided. And by that I mean that two of my passions burst together to create one amazing experience: my favorite band played a song by my favorite singer/entertainer on the 15th anniversary of his death.
Two days after I met Bono before the ZooTv Outside Broadcast Tour opener in New Jersey, I was again standing in front of him in the rain at RFK Stadium in DC. Bono autographed the picture of the two of us from Giants Stadium, but he wasn’t as talkative as he was in Jersey. I think the rain made him grumpy. For my 6th and 7th U2 shows, I sat in the 3rd and 8th rows respectively. And for both shows, U2 ended with Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” just as Elvis had ended all of his concerts in the 1970s. Worlds colliding!
To say I love U2 would be understatement. To say I love Elvis Presley would be an understatement of epic proportion. It was the 15th anniversary of Elvis’ death on August 16, 1977. If you know anything about Elvis fans, you know the anniversary of the King’s death is sacred and very emotional. Compounded by Bono kneeling down in front of me just a few feet away singing Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” in that falsetto voice of his – indescribable!

Do you recall someone getting past security and onto the catwalk and picking Bono up?
